Lent is a special time of reflection, prayer, and spiritual growth in the Catholic Church. For engaged couples, it’s also a beautiful opportunity to prepare your hearts for the sacrament of marriage. Whether your wedding will be celebrated in the Traditional Latin Mass (TLM) or a parish near Cincinnati, these weeks leading up to Easter can strengthen your relationship and deepen your faith together.
1. Pray Together Daily
Prayer is the foundation of any Catholic marriage. Use Lent to start a daily prayer routine with your fiancé. You can pray the Rosary together, read Scripture passages about love and commitment, or attend daily Mass. Sharing these moments builds a spiritual habit that will carry into your married life.
Tip: Consider a “Lenten prayer calendar” where you each take turns choosing short intentions each day.
2. Attend Mass and Adoration
If possible, attend Mass together more frequently during Lent. For couples preparing for a Traditional Catholic or TLM wedding, attending the Latin Mass can help you reflect on the sacredness of the liturgy and the sacrament you are soon to enter.
Adoration is another beautiful practice — spending time together in front of the Blessed Sacrament can be both calming and spiritually enriching.
3. Fast and Abstain Intentionally
Lent is a season of fasting and abstinence, but it can also be a chance for mutual support and accountability. Try fasting together from something meaningful — maybe social media, desserts, or other small comforts — and use the extra time to focus on your relationship and prayer life.
4. Serve Others as a Couple
Acts of charity bring couples closer and reflect Christ’s love. Consider volunteering at your parish, helping a family in need, or participating in a local Lenten outreach program in Cincinnati. Service reminds you that marriage is about giving and selflessness — a central part of Catholic vocation.
5. Reflect on Your Future Life Together
Use Lent to talk about your future as a married couple in a faith-centered way. Discuss your goals for prayer, Mass attendance, family life, and sacramental devotion. Journaling your reflections individually and sharing them with your fiancé can also be a meaningful exercise.
6. Attend a Retreat or Marriage Preparation Workshop
If available, consider a Catholic engagement retreat or a weekend workshop. Many parishes offer programs that explore the sacrament of marriage, communication, and spiritual growth — perfect preparation for couples planning a Traditional Catholic or TLM wedding.
Lent is more than a season of sacrifice; it’s an opportunity to grow together spiritually as you prepare for your vocation to marriage. By praying, serving, fasting, and reflecting together, you will enter your wedding day with hearts ready to love, serve, and glorify God together.
Serving Cincinnati and surrounding areas, I love documenting couples who are not only celebrating a beautiful day but also living out a sacramental life rooted in faith. May this Lent guide you and your fiancé closer to each other and to God as you prepare for the sacred joy of marriage.
